News for the week of April 3

Hume, Tim, and Greg Botelho. "First Flight Leaves Brussels Airport since Attacks." CNN. Cable News Network, n.d. Web. 03 Apr. 2016.
Brussels Airport slowly began to reopen, the day after protesters gathered outside the Place de la Bource and had to be arrested. The Place de la Bource has become the unofficial memorial for the victim of the terror attack, where people have been placing flowers. On the steps stood liberals peacefully called for unity between all races, reminding Belgians that they are all immigrants from different countries. Down on the memorial stood Anti-Islam protesters shouting racial slurs, gesturing Hitler salutes and setting off firecrackers. There was a moment of silence before the flight took off at 1:40, heading for Portugal. Since the reopening, there has been a great security increase as the airport reopens as police are anxious to have a repeat of what happened on the fateful day two weeks ago.

The irony of the protesters was very evident as the two groups stood separated by a mound of flowers, paying tribute to the fallen victims. These groups are so focused on pressing their beliefs that they are overlooking the real point of the memorial. The violent nature of the Anti-Islam group represent how close-minded their beliefs are. This attack has just increased the rift between believers of Islam and those against them, making people more cautious and inspiring hate. The reopening of the airport has shown the terrorist group behind the attack that Belgium has not fallen, that this attack has not broken them. All Belgians are most likely feeling a great sense of nationalism and pride in their country.

Ellis, Ralph, and Darius Johnson. "Muslim Family Seeks Apology from United Airlines." CNN. Cable News Network, n.d. Web. 03 Apr. 2016.
A Muslim family was kicked off a united airline flight and is now seeking a formal apology from the company. They were having trouble securing a child booster seat when a united flight attendant told them they had to leave because of "safety of the flight issues". The family believes that this was an issue of discrimination against them but the united employees are arguing that it had completely to do with the booster, claiming that is did not comply with federal safety regulations. The family tried to check the booster in at the gate but were told to bring it onto the plane with them because the computer system was down. This has sparked great controversy as the couple demands an apology for the way they were treated. A YouTube video was posted documenting the entire encounter

There have been many occurrences similar to this one in the recent past, increasing the public's suspicion that this was a racial issue. At the moment the airline is not apologizing as they are not agreeing to the family's  portrayal of the encounter. the mother remarked it as humiliating, as they were being singled out in a public place.there can be no toleration for discrimination, and this may have not been the case in this situation, but it opens a door for others to treat Muslim's this way in the future. the family has easily gained support, their story is hopefully inspiring others to share their stories of discrimination as well. though the united airline may have an excuse, it seems very flimsy and highly motivated by a racial issue.

Diamond, Jeremy, and Eugene Scott. "Trump on Potential War between Japan and North Korea: 'If They Do, They Do'" CNN. Cable News Network, n.d. Web. 03 Apr. 2016.
Donald Trump stirs conflict between Japan and North Korea when he speaks about japan needing to arm itself against North Korea. Recently he has suggested that the us military withdraw from north Korean shores and replace them with nuclear bombs. this talk has startled both South Korea and Japan, who are both allies of the United States. Meanwhile, he is pressing NATO member states to contribute more money and start "paying their fair share". President Obama has spoken out to denounce his claims and made sure that Donald Trumps words don't start controversy. Lately Trump has been speaking greatly of the military decisions and conditions he is not pleased with, overall urging the United States to "rethink its military commitments abroad".

Donald Trump speaking about other countries in a negative way will put a target on the United States before he is even president. He doesn't have the authority to be talking to other countries as a representative of our country, and the fear of him sparking conflict is most likely why Obama has spoken about the issue. This is another examples of Trump getting involved somewhere he shouldn't and this reflects badly on us to other countries. The course of this election has smeared other countries' views of the United States, overall causing them to take us less seriously. His violent nature has inspired acts of violence worldwide that would normally be unacceptable; the way he has shown he will deal with foreign affairs shows that he does not have the safety of our country in mind.
